Root Canals, Broken Rib, and No Job…anything else?!

Where do I start? It has been an amazingly bad two weeks.

Tuesday, Aug. 30,  I fall with the baby who thankfully was in his car seat. I was walking up to my sister’s apartment that has dirt and grass for sidewalks. As I was walking to the walkway of her apartment, I tripped on a tree root. I was so worried about the baby that I slowed his fall as much as possible, but didn’t protect myself. I fell HARD onto the handle of the car seat. I felt my body fold over that car seat. I was so badly shaken up that I didn’t feel all the pain of that fall until later.

Wednesday, August 31, last minute root canal needed for tooth that was bugging me. The last time my TMJ flared up really bad I thought it was a tooth, so I was trying to wait it out. Turns out I needed two root canals. Root canal #2 is this afternoon. First root canal was pretty painful so I took some painkillers afterwards. After root canal appointment, my hubby called to tell me his boss notified him that he has two weeks left before finding a new job. Nice.

Eventually by the end of the week I started to feel some pain. By Tues., Sept. 6,  I made an appointment with my doctor to make sure I didn’t injure something serious. Turns out I’ve been walking around with a broken rib which would explain why I’ve been walking a little slower and a little bit uncomfortable when I cough or laugh.

You ever have a week or two weeks like this?

Families of Freedom

Today is September 11. The 10 year anniversary of 9/11. I keep trying to avoid all news reports. I have never forgotten 9/11. And watching the reports leave me a sobbing mess. I tried to watch 9/11: America Remembers just hearing those names and seeing those photos made me cry. I will never forget that day. I will never forget how ordinary the day started. I will never forget sitting down at my desk in Jacksonville, FL’s City Hall and getting a phone call from my friend in another department asking me if I had heard. I was confused. Heard what? That was when the second plane hit the second tower and I happened to be going by the tv in another department. And then I started to cry. Cry for what was happening, crying for those people, and crying for what was to come. I needed to call my family in New York and make sure they were okay. We did not lose anyone directly related to us or that we knew, but those that were lost and their families affected are in my thoughts and prayers.

Today I came across Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund. What a great opportunity for those students in need who were directly affected by 9/11 to get help to go to college. For the next two days (Sunday and Monday, Sept.11-12), Mamapedia has an option to donate $1, $5, or $10 to Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund and Mamapedia will match up to $5,000! I made my $10 donation today and I really hope that Mamapedia gets to match the $5,000 in full. If you don’t get a chance to donate in the next two days, you can always go directly to Scholarship America and choose to donate to Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund through their website.

Where Are You Sleep?

I miss sleep. Uninterrupted sleep. I knew this would happen and, yet, I am still surprised.

Most days we look like this…

SleepyUs 251x300 Where Are You Sleep?

And this little guy is my good sleeper! My first NEVER slept until he hit almost 18 months. We got 2-3 (mostly 2 hours) hour intervals of sleep. It was rough. Our newest sleeps anywhere from 4-6 hours at night. I guess I just got used to getting sleep again and now starting all over it is hard. Especially since I do all the night stuff by myself because hubby is in California for work. I am soooo tired!

I have an addiction

to Daily Deal Sites. Oh yeah!

I am a Stay at Home Mom to two boys and I feel guilty paying full price for anything these days – especially stuff for myself. Enter daily deal sites to the rescue! $29 for $70 worth of a haircut and deep conditioning treatment – sweet! Mexican food from our fave local restaurant at $15 for $30 worth of food – sweet! $20 for $40 worth of Fairytale Brownies – sweet! $15 for $30 worth of cupcakes from a local bakery – sweet! $39 for an $80 hot stone massage – sweet! You get my point.  If you couldn’t tell I am a sucker for restaurants and dessert deals, but I love the other deals as well.

Here is my biggest problem – remembering which sites I used to buy at and using them before they expire. I just recently had my second baby and I have baby brain. I can’t remember anything without writing it down – even then stuff gets lost in the mix. I have to search my emails to find the confirmations. The solution is here!!! It is called CityPockets and I LOVE them! If you follow me on Twitter, then you may have seen my tweets when I discovered them on July 15th thanks to Netted‘s daily email. They allow me to import my daily deal vouchers from the sites they have listed – i.e. Groupon, LivingSocial, MamaSource, etc. (and they have a spreadsheet for other sites they haven’t added yet).

citypockets banner resized I have an addictionNot only does it organize your daily deal, but CityPockets has a marketplace so that you can buy daily deals that you missed or sell the daily deals that you won’t be able to use. I sold a voucher almost as soon as I signed up. And it was easier than I expected! I listed the price I wanted to sell my voucher for. And once it sold I was notified that I received my payment via Paypal. Woo hoo! Especially since it was going to go to waste because I wouldn’t be able to use it before it expired.

Citypockets also has an app for both Droids and iPhone. Yes, I do have the app for that! icon smile I have an addiction

Thank you to The Team at Citypockets for making my life just a little bit easier!

Starbucks Cake Pops

Starbucks Cake pops Starbucks Cake Pops

Anyone else addicted to these Starbucks Cake Pops?! Starbucks started selling this around early March. As far as I know there is only three flavors so far – Birthday Cake Pop, Tiramisu Cake Pop, and Rocky Road Cake Pop. My cousin had me taste the Tiramisu one at her house and then I stopped by Starbucks and tried out the other two. I am pretty sure my favorite is the Tiramisu, but I may have to just try these out again to be sure! icon smile Starbucks Cake Pops Yummy!!!

Back to the Future Recreated

I am not a big fan of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Comics or Horror, but I LOVE that Spike TV’s awards show for this called Scream 2010 recreated a Back to the Future trailer. Yep, you heard me right Back to the Future trailer with Michael J. Fox!!! There is something so charming about Michael J. Fox. I am a nerd and could watch Back to the Future (the first one) a million times!

Who knows I might actually check out Scream 2010 to catch Doc and Marty reunite on October 19 at 9PM/8C!

Did you catch the video that was released this week of Eric Stoltz as the first Marty McFly? I like Eric Stoltz, but Michael J. Fox was better suited for that role. I’m glad they went with Michael J. Fox. If you haven’t seen the clip, you can see it here: Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly.

World Arthritis Day is tomorrow.

worldarthritisday 300x78 World Arthritis Day is tomorrow.

On October 6, 2010, I found out that my mom had finally received a diagnosis on why she had been so tired and achy. My mom has been tired for years, but the real bad aching just started this year. I thought most of this was because of the long hours she spends on her feet as at work as a cake decorator.  I often goofed on my mom for spending the other hours of her time not working on WebMD. I told her that all those symptoms could fit anything from allergies to lyme disease! I said, of course, if you look hard enough you will find some disease that will fit your symptoms. Oh how I would like to kick myself now. My mom was officially diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis.

Did you know that October 12th is World Arthritis Day?

World Arthritis Day was first celebrated in 1996 by Arthritis Rheumatism International giving a voice to those suffering with arthritis around the world.  The goals of World Arthritis Day are:

  • To raise awareness of arthritis in all its forms among the medical community, people with arthritis and the general public
  • To influence public policy by making decision-makers aware of the burden of arthritis and the steps which can be taken to ease it
  • To ensure all people with arthritis and their caregivers are aware of the vast support network available to them.
