Pardon the quiet while I clean up around here…

Sleeponthejob Pardon the quiet while I clean up around here...
I am in the process of changing some things up on my blog…which it turns out I may have underestimated the amount of work that was going to go into this. Help me Oprah Winfrey! (If you’ve seen Talledega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby then you should get it.) I have been on this computer for far too long. No, I am not switching over to WordPress (not yet anyways) and the layout will still be mostly the same with just some tweaks.
I happen to notice something while I’ve been cleaning up my blog. There have been quite a few bloggers that I had their button on my blog (some of them started around the same time I started blogging or just a few months before) that just disappeared or appears they burned out and have taken an extended vacation. I’ll be honest. I was almost there at the point where I was ready to throw in the towel on this blog, but then I went to Bloggy Boot Camp and Tiffany said something along the lines of we don’t have to jump at every opportunity that is offered to us. I needed to hear that. I have had some really fabulous opportunities and then some less than fabulous opportunities come up. Here I thought I had to say yes to everything. Nope. Not this gal. I still love products to review and giveaway and even the occasional press release has information that I would share with my readers, so I won’t stop that, but I will be sure to keep a balance in my life to make sure that I don’t get that burned out feeling again. I have a family and a life…well, at least a family…the getting a life thing I am still working on.

  1. I am changing the look and feel of my blog too! I have moments when i hit that burn out some weeks and then i have to step back for a few days and take a break or else i would burn out completely. I noticed the same thing with the buttons when i was changing my stuff, I can not believe how many blogs i used to follow that are just not there anymore.

Women often feel they are not allowed to say no to anything–I'm glad you are learning how and can thus keep your sanity! Good luck on the finding a life part; I've come to the conclusion if they don't start selling them at Wal-mart that I'm never going to have one ;)

Melinda and I used to be like that and would get stressed and fight over blog content and opportunities that were presented to us. How silly. Blogging is suppose to be fun with the perks of free stuff and the occasional post where you get paid some cash. Once you learn to say no to opportunities that don't seem like a good fit the better shape you will be in. Good luck on your blog changes. I am glad MElinda does out blog changes. LOL.

I agree and think it is so important to be selective about the opportunities that come your way.
Saying no is a great practice to get into :)

I know what you mean. I just started blogging a couple of months ago, and see how it can quickly take over your life.

I love the look of your blog by the way!

Stopping by from SITS to say hello.

Balance is good. I've been blogging 4 years (as of today!) now and I've learned that the important thing about blogging is that I'm myself. I don't have to conform to what others think the blog should look like.

It is so tough to find that balance. Good luck getting things tweaked !

  8. For sure! I have learned that it is okay to say "no" and I think most PR reps are pretty respectful of that. We can only do so much and when we put too much on our plate, we get way burnt out.

I regularly feel that way…and when something that is supposed to be fun (blogging) starts being a chore, it's time to take a break! Good luck finding your balance :)

  10. I know blogging can get overwhelming at times keeping up with it all. I found that doing reviews/giveaways stressed me out..I am much more selective now. Oh and change is always good! I will be going through one too. Cant wait to see yours!
