I’ve been following Somer’s disappearance on October 19, 2009 since before the official Amber Alert was released. You see little Somer disappeared from my hometown, Orange Park, FL. It is always hard to hear about a child disappearing especially now being a parent myself. It breaks my heart because the pain that you know the family is enduring. I put out the word on Facebook and Twitter for my hometown family and friends and those outside that we had hoped could help to find Somer. We had hoped as a community that little Somer would be found unharmed, but that was not the case. It happened so quickly that my head is still spinning. One minute she was missing, the next her little body had been found in a Georgia landfill. It was so incredibly sad.
Little Somer was laid to rest today. Had I been back in town visiting, I surely would’ve gone and shown my support for her family. I know that the community has been shook up, but in spite of this horrible tragedy little Somer has brought the community closer.

We live in Fla too and it seems like this happens to some por little girl about once a year or so… it is heartbreaking.
Its so sad!!! The world just seems like its just gotten worse and worse. We have a missing girl in our town too. She just went missing from high school. Its been almost a year and nothing!

There just really aren't words are there? I feel for her family and hug my babies everyday.. even on days they drive me nuts.. because you never know, right?
That is just a horrible story! So so sad, I couldn't imagine what it'd be like to be her mother!
this is just breaking my heart …. how can someone do such evil things to an innocient child? All the children in the USA seem to have to scared to just walk out their front door…is this just happening in America???
Truly a loss. I hope this makes parents and child care takers even MORE aware that they need to constantly check their local sex offender registries.
