Friday’s Freewrite – July 31, 2009

FF Fridays Freewrite July 31, 2009

No, I haven’t fallen off the planet. My father-in law and brother-in-law were here from Monday night until 6:30am this morning. It’s been a LONG week.

I’ve been helping out on Busy Mom while Emily is on vacation. Not much comment love for me over there. icon sad Fridays Freewrite July 31, 2009

Thanks to my in-laws being here I missed the Mamavation Twitter party last night. I won a pair of Earth Footwear sneakers and then I lost them because I wasn’t online to claim them. I know I shouldn’t be sad because I never actually had them…but I am. I need new sneakers!

The Mamavation Mom was announced last night….Mommy Maria won. Be sure to join Mamavation to cheer her on and watch her journey.

Today I eagerly await my yearly checkup with my GYN. Woo hoo! {Heavily dripping in sarcasm}

Amazingly enough…I am still working out with my Tracey Mallett 6 week challenge. Week #4 almost finished, starting week #5 on Monday!

Completely random, but is anyone else creeped out by The King from Burger King? I can’t understand how this marketing is still working for them. The King creeps me out.

Blue Like Play Dough by Tricia Goyer

BluePlayDough Blue Like Play Dough by Tricia Goyer

In the everyday stretch and squeeze of motherhood, Tricia Goyer often feels smooshed by the demands of life. In Blue Like Play Dough, she shares her unlikely journey from rebellious, pregnant teen to busy wife and mom with big dreams of her own. As her story unfolds, Tricia realizes that God has more in store for her than she has ever imagined possible.

Sure, life is messy and beset by doubts. But God keeps showing up in the most unlikely places–in a bowl of carrot soup, the umpteenth reading of Goodnight Moon, a woe-is me teen drama, or play dough in the hands of a child.

In Tricia’s transparent account, you’ll find understanding, laughter, and strength for your own story. And in the daily push and pull, you’ll learn to recognizes the loving hands of God at work in your life… and know He has something beautiful in mind.

Tricia Goyer is the author of numerous works of fiction and nonfiction, including Generation NeXt Parenting and the Gold Medallion finalist Life Interrupted. Goyer writes for publications such as Today’s Christian Woman and Focus on the Family, speaks to women’s groups nationwide and has been a presenter at the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) national convention. She and her husband, John, live with their family in Montana.

Here is Tracey’s invite for her release party on Monday, July 27, 2009:
I’m inviting YOU to come bring your stretched self and attend a fun Facebook Launch Party for Blue Like Play Dough! I know you’re busy (and tired) so I’m bringing the festivities to you! So grab your comfiest chair and slip away from that long To-Do list and join me for a two hour Play Dough Party. I’ll be sharing some of my mothering experiences (the good and the bad), hosting a fun trivia contest, giving away Mommy Play Dough Packs, answering questions, and getting to know YOU!

I’d be honored to have you as my guest – and to prove it I’ll be giving away 2 ginormous Mommy Play Dough Packs to two party attendees at random! The winners will be announced at the end of the party. Grab your friends and let’s party! oh, and don’t forget your camera! Snap pictures during the party and upload them during the festivities. I’ll be giving a prize away for the best photo!

So come join me on July 27th from 5-7 pm (PST)!

Bake Me a Wish! Gourmet Cake Review and Giveaway (CLOSED)

Bake Me a Wish! gourmet cakes are made with only the finest, freshest ingredients by an award-winning family run New York bakery that also supplies pastries to some of Manhattan’s most elite restaurants.

They have a variety of cakes to choose from. Below are just a few of their delicious cakes:

Bake Me a Wish! sent me a Triple Chocolate Enrobed Brownie Cake to try. I LOVED it! I had to control myself to take small portions so I don’t swallow the whole cake in just one sitting (I am on a diet)…believe me the thought did cross my mind to devour the cake without sharing. This Brownie Cake is a deliciously moist fudge brownie cake. It is rich, but not too heavy. It is beautifully decorated with milk and dark chocolate glazes drizzled all over and the Belgian chocolate plaque. The fudge brownie melts in your mouth. It is really delicious. My hubby loved this cake as well and he is not a big chocolate fan. This cake can serve 6-8 people (although I’ll tell you now you probably won’t want to share, so order a second for sharing purposes) and it is 7″ in diameter.

5% of any cake order goes to Bake Me A Wish!’s Operation: Birthday Cake, which, together with their partner Soldiers’ Angels donates birthday cakes each month to soldiers overseas who are having a birthday. Follow the link to see the Soldiers’ Response: http://www.bakemeawish.com/banner/Presentation/OBC-SoldierResponse.pdf It really does make a difference to have someone remember your birthday while you are deployed away from home serving your country. My husband celebrated two birthdays (his 20th and 21st birthday) in the desert and he would have loved receiving a cake like this on his birthday to know that he was remembered. It is great that Bake Me a Wish! makes it possible for soldiers to be remembered on their birthday.

Want to buy yourself or someone you love one of these delicious cakes? Go to Bake Me A Wish! to order a cake.

Toning Up Thursday: Hang In There

I am now on my third week of completing Tracey Mallett‘s 6 Week Challenge. It hasn’t been easy. I hate to exercise more than anyone I know. It seems all my friends are now are trying to be healthier, but when we were younger the most exercise we got was going to the dance clubs and dancing all night. And that was a great workout…but really how long can going clubbing regularly last – especially when you are a mom to a toddler?

Here are my motivators (great to have when trying to find a reason to quit and eat a ginormous bowl of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream):
1) Reduce the size of my Buddha belly (not cute to still look pregnant after two years and some months of not being pregnant).
2) Not wanting to huff and puff while chasing my son at the playground…nothing worse than being that parent that looks close to a heart attack while playing with their child.
3) Yes, I would like another child. Very often I change my mind when the terrible twos rears it ugly head around here more than I would like…but yes I would like to have another child. And I do not want to be as out of shape as I was during my pregnancy with Little Monkey. Spraining my back pretty much says it all!
5) Hoping to reduce my chances of needing a c-section with my future child. C-section was not fun with Little Monkey…recovery was AWFUL for me.
4) Did I mention the Buddha belly?! Not cute…nor is the third chin that I have developed.

Since the end of May, I lost 12 pounds. How you ask…who knows!? I started with the EA Active and lost 7 pounds in two weeks. Now I am only training with Tracey Mallett’s Sexy in 6 system. I’ve lost 5 pounds in two weeks. I notice the weight loss more with Tracey Mallett’s workouts. I can actually see muscles in my stomach!

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit…I completed day number 15 today…so close.

Jsiggytransp Toning Up Thursday: Hang In There

I think I’m coming down with something

Maybe it is the stress of having to constantly have the house clean for last minute showings…or maybe it is the constant workouts (which are by the way paying off with 12lbs. lost since the end of May). Little Monkey and I have been out of the house more than we have been home between all the showings. Yesterday we had a Realtor from hell who wanted to show our house. First they called me with barely an hour’s notice. All I asked for was a two hour notice. It is very important when there is a toddler in the home. I clean up and the royal terror comes right behind me with his tornado mess behind me…leaving me with the feeling of repeating myself over and over. The showing office called and pushed back an hour to give me my 2 hour window…and then they called right before the showing to say that the Realtor was delayed, so they would need another hour. Thanks for calling me at the last minute while I have my child loaded up in the carseat. Fine…I’d just kill another hour at home before leaving the house with the little guy. And then another phone call, the Realtor is delayed another hour. Talk about annoying! Last night it all caught up to me and I slept from 5:30pm-7am! I felt refreshed but now I have an unbelievably awful headache that I can’t shake.

I have a yummy review and giveaway coming up…so stay tuned. Right now I am going to curl up on the couch while Little Monkey naps and catch up on “America’s Got Talent”.
