Barely Domestic Mama

Oh the joys of showing a house!

In case you haven’t heard, we are in the process of selling our house. Don’t worry if we sell right away, we will be staying in the area until at least winter. Right now it is on the market and we have to leave the house every so often for a showing. Since the house has been on the market I have been pretty good about picking up around the house early – you know just in case. Saturday was my day of rest…ummmm…yeah, I figured since we hadn’t heard from our realtor’s showing service that we wouldn’t have any showings on Saturday. I was wrong. We missed the call from the showing service. Around 12:30 the hubby went out and picked up lunch for us from Burger King. I had just gotten through my Whopper Jr. (with a sleepy toddler napping on my side) and was pouring the dressing on my side salad when someone knocked at the door. We figured it was our lawnboy coming back to ask a question since he had just stopped by in the morning. Well, the hubby was stunned to find a realtor at the other side of the door and I’m sure the realtor was just as surprised to find my hubby staring at him. Awkward moment! The hubby asked for ten minutes. And in that ten minutes we ran around like chickens without heads trying to clean up around the house. Think the morning scene in the movie Home Alone when they realized they slept in and were going to miss their flight to Paris. Chaos! Thank goodness I had enough sense the night before to clean up around the house – just in case! I am ESPECIALLY glad that I had cleaned the dishes from my brownie baking mess the night before which normally I would have just waited to do the dishes the next day, but I had a friend who just had her first baby calling me late at night to talk and the only way I could stay awake in between her calls (while she was attempting to nurse her baby or having to get checked by the nurses) was washing dishes. Little Monkey actually slept through all of our running around. He was rudely awakened to the sound of the vaccumm since he made a little bit of a mess with crumbs that morning. Somehow we managed to get the house in showing condition in ten minutes – I’m not sure how and I was really tired after all that running around, but we did it and that is all that matters. Note to self: Whether or not there is a showing scheduled, clean up the house and act as if there is a showing no matter what.

Wow. To get a house ready to show in 10 minutes is quite the accomplishment. I couldn't get this one ready in 10 years!
