Today, June 5, is National Donut Day!
National Donut Day started in 1938 as a fund raiser for the Chicago Salvation Army. Their goal was to help the needy during the Great Depression, and to honor Salvation Army female volunteers known as “lassies” that prepared thousands of fresh donuts to the homesick soldiers that served in France during World War I. National Donut Day is on the first Friday of June each year.
Krispy Kreme will be giving away a free donut (no purchase necessary).
Dunkin Donuts will be giving away a free donut with the purchase of ANY beverage – limit 1 per customer.
