Tastefully Simple Party coming soon…

Just wanted to let you know that during the month of June I will be hosting a Tastefully Simple catalog party. So start putting some money aside to help a sister out! icon smile Tastefully Simple Party coming soon... Shurrece Kovalski is my consultant and I just love her! I was sad when her family had to change duty stations and left Maryland. I’ve met quite a few Army wives while my hubby was in the Army and she is one of my faves! I know it can be tough to have a career, raise a family, and hold down a job all while moving your family from station to station, so Tastefully Simple is a great career choice for her. I’d love to give her party sales a huge boost.

The best thing about my hosting the catalog party throughout the month of June is that you will not have to wait for the party to close before you get your products! You just order online and your products are shipped to you once you pay for them! Sweet deal!

When I get my link together, I will also be putting up my faves and Shurrece’s faves to give you an idea of the great products available to you. Also I will hosting a giveaway that is open to anyone who places an order during my catalog party. Not sure what the prize will be yet, but I’ll be thinking about it over this weekend.

Stay tuned for more details to come….

Just another road adventure

We left Florida on Wednesday around lunchtime. I was ready to head back home. There is only so much time I can spend with my parents before their constant criticisms from how I raise my child to how much weight I have put on that I can take before I snap. That is why we work best with space in between us. We stopped sometime around 6pm in Smithfield, NC stop for the night. We needed it. Little Monkey ran back and forth like a loon quite a few times in our hotel room…I guess working out all the energy he had pent up while sitting in his car seat. Thursday morning was a nice morning to lounge around before hitting the road. The rest of the ride wasn’t too bad, but sure enough Little Monkey lost it an hour away from our house. I don’t blame him. That last leg of the trip is soooo painful. Little Monkey can only sleep so much before he is bored.

So we’re officially back home. Now I get to spend this weekend going through our mail, catching up on laundry, and organizing the house to put it on the market. Yes – it is going to be a busy, busy weekend.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Cupcake for the Cure

Breast Cancer At A Glance

  • One in every eight women in the United States develops breast cancer.
  • The causes of breast cancer are not yet fully known although a number of risk factors have been identified.
  • Breast cancer is diagnosed with self- and physician- examination of the breasts, mammography, ultrasound testing, and biopsy.
  • There are many types of breast cancer that differ in their capability of spreading (metastasize) to other body tissues.
  • Treatment of breast cancer depends on the type and location of the breast cancer, as well as the age and health of the patient.
  • The American Cancer Society recommends that a woman should have a baseline mammogram between the ages of 35 and 40 years. Between 40 and 50 years of age mammograms are recommended every other year. After age 50 years, yearly mammograms are recommended.

A call for help from Manic Mother

While searching for my blog link-a-thon html code on MomDot, I came across a call for help.

Beth at Manic Mother just found out her youngest son, Ezra, has leukemia. The type of leukemia he has is the most treatable type, it has the highest remission and cure rate. He now faces 3 years of chemotherapy.

Ezra A call for help from Manic Mother

Here is Beth’s call for help:

We are by no means financially well off. I stay at home with the boys, and my husband works PT and goes to school FT. We live off of his little pay and student loans.

We also share a car.

We can’t afford a new one…or even a used one. I am going to be taking Ezra to the Dr. 2-3 times a week, there is no way we can share a car, with my husband having to go back and forward from school and work. Not to mention if he gets a fever I have to take him to the Dr. ASAP.

His insurance should cover all of his medical bills. Its just the other things we can’t afford.

We also need to make my home more suitable for Ezra, I need to have the plumbing, and ac serviced to make sure it is clean. Any bacteria infection can kill him. We just don’t have the funds to do so. Yes, my family is helping out some, but their means are limited as well. Not to mention much of their money will be spent flying down to help me (they live in MN).

I am a proud person, I do not like being a charity case. But given the current situation, I am swallowing my pride, and asking for any help you can give.

Even if its only a dollar, I would be thrilled. If you don’t have a dollar (I know I don’t) , please help out by blogging about this, tweeting, stumbling, etc. I have seen how Mommy bloggers rally to help each other out in times of need, and I know you will all do the same for us.

I am putting a paypal button in this post for donations, and there will also be one up in my sidebar, which I know works. I don’t know if this one will work, its so confusing and my head hurts, but we need help ASAP so I am trying to muddle through this.

Please help in anyway you can, thanks so much, and keep the prayers and thoughts coming.

Beth we hear you. It is so hard to hear about a child being sick. I am glad to hear that Ezra has a treatable leukemia, but it still stinks nonetheless. Being a SAHM our bills are a little bit tighter than we’d like, but I did manage to squeak out $1o at this time to donate via PayPal. I wish I could do more – so here is my post to try to rally together more help. Ezra and your family will be in our prayers.

You can buy ad space and/or a bracelet to help.

MomDot gave us bloggers the opportunity to link our blogs in the Blog Link – A – Thon to promote our blogs as well as theirs. 330 bloggers participated and here is the final blog roll! If you were a part of this, here is the link to the html code. Trisha suggested in the post that they may consider doing this every few months. I think it’s a great idea. I got in on this a little late, but better late than never!

Taking Time to Reconnect – Eden Fantasys Giveaway (Closed)

Warning: The Eden Fantasys link will take you to a website that is not suitable for work, children, your parents, grandparents, or other people that you wouldn’t feel comfortable picking out sensual gift sets or toys with.

Drew at Eden Fantasys gave us the opportunity to try out Kamasutra’s Earthly Delights. I picked out this specific set for the hubby and I since it allows us to take the time and reconnect.

large delights Taking Time to Reconnect Eden Fantasys Giveaway (Closed)

A romantic gift set with exciting ways for lovers to keep in touch.

Includes: Original Oil of Love, Spearmint Stimulating Pleasure Balm, French Vanilla Body Soufflé, Sweet Almond Massage Oil, Sweet Honeysuckle Honey Dust with feather applicator.

First, the packaging was so discreet that my hubby had quite the surprise when he opened up the box to see what was inside. There’s no way you would have any idea what was in the box. This is way better than going to the adult stores and if you’re anything like me (shy about buying any bedroom products in public) you feel like a perve for just being there. Funny story – I had a friend of mine think it would be funny to bring me to one of those shops with her to watch me blush at the products in the store. Only the visit backfired on her when she was walking to the counter with a toy for herself. Two guys walked in and she lunged her toy across the room as to appear as if she was not buying anything like that. Hilarious!

Second, the items come with instructions. Sweet! My hubby and I skipped over the instructions and we looked at each other puzzled. In the hubby’s eagerness to get the products out of the box, the instructions fell behind the box. So we were pretty well aware of the products when we got to use them. I loved the products and especially the fact that we have to take the time to use these products before getting to the big show (if you know what I mean).

I’ll admit the smell emitting from the box was rather strong at first as there are lots of scents in the box, but word to the wise (if strong fragrances make you sneezy like me) open the box and let it air out that way it won’t hit you all at once.

We will definitely be purchasing again from Eden Fantasys in the future.

What happened to my baby?!

I know, I know…I’ve fallen off the blogging wagon. Things have been a little crazy here with the hubby coming back from Germany. Yeah for hubby being home! Little Monkey is happy to see his daddy again.

Last week I took Little Monkey to get a big boy haircut at Cookie Cutters Haircuts. It seems after he got his first haircut almost two months ago his hair seemed to grow in thicker which made his hair start to look bushy. Little Monkey loved Cookie Cutters Haircuts! I don’t blame him. He was playing in the jungle gym while I was giving my information to the owner. Before we got started on the haircut, Little Monkey got to choose which seat he wanted – airplane, firetruck, a tractor, or a race car. Little Monkey chose the airplane. Then came out the clippers – he was not too happy with that. His first haircut was scissors only, so this required a little extra holding and trying to distract him with the tv in front of him that had Little Bill playing on it. Overall Little Monkey did really well. I’m glad I chose Cookie Cutters Haircuts because I don’t think it would have been a lot harder to distract him into having a decent time.

Here’s my Little Monkey…not looking like a baby anymore!

I do love his new haircut. I think he looks adorable, but it is still hard to see my baby looking more and more like a toddler. My hubby loves it because Little Monkey looks more like him with his new haircut.

Recent statistics show that more than 2.6 million American babies are currently living in poverty, and every 33 seconds a baby is born into poverty in the United States. Both numbers are expected to rise given the current economic environment.

These children often lack basic necessities many of us take for granted, including a warm blanket to comfort them. Research has shown that a simple blanket can have a powerful soothing effect on young children, especially those born into improvised situations where they often face high levels of stress and anxiety.

Donations will be accepted until Saturday, July 11, 2009.

You can also bid on a celebrity designed blanket! My favorite blankets are Isla Fisher and Kerri Walsh’s blankets.

All cash donated at Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us stores nationwide, online at Toysrus.com/BundledinHope, and through their baby registry fundraising program, along with 100% of all winning bids from the auction of blankets designed by celebrity moms, will be directed to Save the Children as part of the Bundled in Hope campaign.

As an added bonus, if you donate (any amount) to Bundled In Hope you get an extra entry on all of my current giveaways until July 11, 2009 when the Bundled in Hope campaign closes. Just make sure to leave a comment on the giveaway post to let me know you donated for your extra entry.

The Good Home Cookbook Giveaway (CLOSED)

The+Good+Home+Cookbook The Good Home Cookbook Giveaway (CLOSED)

I received a copy of this book to review from http://www.abramsbooks.com and I was given a copy to giveaway to one lucky reader! Yeah for you!

About the author
Richard J. Perry runs his own cookbook-lifestyle publishing line, Collectors Press, and is the author of Retro Kids Cooking, Retro Breakfast, and Retro Luau. He has worked as a cook and chef and has appeared on Food Network and Travel Channel. Perry lives in Portland, OR.

This book is great for someone like me who uses a lot of recipes because I am still not comfortable with just tossing what I think will taste best. I like that it gives a little history blurb on where the food originated from. This book has a ton of classic home cooking recipes that were tested in home kitchens across America. Since I am Puerto Rican, I love learning how to cook different meals other than Puerto Rican dishes (which I love, too). I love that this book incorporates recipes that have made their way into American meals, but actually originated overseas. I LOVE food and I especially love trying new foods. Their are so many delicious recipes in this book that it is hard not to get hungry when reading over the recipes. The recipes are separated by breakfast, lunch appetizers, salads, soups, fish and shellfish, poultry, meat, grilling, pasta and rice, vegetables, breads and toppings, pies, cakes, and cookies, other desserts and sweets, and drinks. The appendices covers utensils and equipment, cooking terms, herbs and spices, canning and pickling, freezing and thawing, presentation and garnishing, and holiday menus!

One lucky reader will win “The Good Home Cookbook” courtesy of The Good Home Cookbook and HNA Books.
