Barely Domestic Mama

There is no place like home for the holidays

My hubby is in the military. We are stationed 9-12 hours away from our family depending on who’s family you are going to see. This year we couldn’t afford to go home for Thanksgiving. And thanks to my hubby who decided to jump into his new civilian job as soon as possible now we can’t go home for Christmas. My hubby will get to go home to his family for a wedding at least a week and a half before Christmas and I know they will do some Christmas stuff with him. I chose not to go because he’s just driving there to turn right back around and come home which is just miserable for Little Monkey. I want to go home. I want to see my family for Christmas. I got to be home last year for Christmas (the first in 2 years that we had been away) and we had such a great time. That is always how I imagined it would be, but it didn’t last for long when I realized I had to pack up and go back to my house that is states away. I am trying to suck it up, but I just wish that we could have big family Christmas Eve dinners with my aunt, uncles, and cousins like we always used to do…but it just seems so far away from that ever going to happen. Holidays seem so lonely around here with just our little tiny family.

  1. We used to live far away from family too. To make things worse we were a blended family — 2 his, 2 mine and 2 ours. Some Christmases had all the kids and some had only the younger two. I know its hard but just try to make the best of it and start your own traditions. Make a birthday cake for Jesus and let you toddler help decorate it. We started going to the movies on Christmas afternoon. It won’t be the same as being with your family but it might make it better.

I found you through SITS and saw your comment that you’re new. My suggestion to you is comment, comment, comment on the people above you in the SITS comments and the people below. And then the people who comment on your blog, follow their profile and comment on THEIR blog if you haven’t already. Before you know it you’ll have more followers and names you recognize.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hi there,
I really feel for you. Family is so important to me too. We have some family members that are not here for the holiddays and we always make a point to call when everyone else is together. It may take an hour or so, but we always pass the phone around to everyone. It makes us all feel a little better.

    Thanks for stopping by today:)

I’m sure that sucks! Sorry! I totally understand not wanting to keep your little one in a car all the time though. Kids get restless and fussy when they can’t move around for long periods. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! ((hugs))

  4. I know how that can be. You don’t allow name and url comments. DARN! LOL Anyway, so you know, when you have your family close enough to visit all the time they will drive you nuts seeing little monkey. My son’s nickname was chunky monkey and now he is just plain skinny. LOL
