Barely Domestic Mama

My picky Little Monkey

While Christmas shopping for others last week, I came across something I had wanted for a long time, but couldn’t force myself to pay the full price for. Being that it was offered for $5.00 which was better than the $17-24 range it had been sitting in, I bought Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. I need all the help I can get to get Little Monkey to eat right. I have the hardest time introducing him to new foods. Little Monkey will scream as if someone is hurting him if you even so much as attempt to give him a food he has not approved of. Little Monkey would live off Goldfish crackers and cookies if we would let him. He likes yogurt, bananas, french fries, grilled cheese, and Flat Earth chips. I am not sure what I have done to create this little monster that is disgusted by most foods. I am not at all like that. I am Puerto Rican and I love our culture’s food. I also love Italian food, Lebanese food, American food, Greek food, etc…I think you get my point. I try mostly any and all foods…except seafood because it’s just not my thing. I discovered three years ago that even though I like the taste of crabs, they do not like me…I am allergic to them. My hubby on the the other hand has to be convinced into trying new foods. Hubby is a lot better now than when we first got married. I still have to “forget” to mention ingredients in the food until after he eats and likes it. Then I get to jump up and gloat saying I knew you would like such and such in your food. I’ve done this quite a few times, I just wish he didn’t prejudge food. Maybe that is where my son gets it from. My mom said I went through a phase when I was Little Monkey’s age that I only ate peas and carrots – the doctor assured her that I was fine. I wish I could get Little Monkey to try peas and carrots. He just thinks they are something to launch across the room.

I have that book too, and the same problem with boy-boy only eating hotdogs, nuggets & grilled cheese.
I switched all his fav foods to organic, so atleast I feel a lil less guilty about his eating habits.
Her noodle buttered noodle recipe is really good.

I need that book too! Madelyn HATES veggies. I have to hide them or it’s a no go.

  6. Funny how their tastebuds change. You’ll be amazed. My daughter used to love mushrooms, now she despises them. We made her to try it once and she gagged and puked at the dinner table! As you can guess, we did not force the issue again :) Btw, I’m allergic to shrimp but not crab odd how that works, right?

I have the same problem with my family & husband. Sometimes you just can't trick them…I've tried over and over again with onions. I hate having to cook without them.

Guess I should get that cookbook!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Peas in our house are made to squish, that’s all my son will do with them. Don’t feel too bad that he only eats a few foods. My son lives off pancakes, grilled cheese, and chicken nuggets. I’m sure one day they all grow out of it.
